Research Activity and Grants

The US Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN) faculty have received vast external funding for multiple research projects over the last ten years.  These funds have facilitated the investigation of the potential anxiolytic effects and motor movements of various herbal supplements, prevention and treatment of post-traumatic stress syndrome, the use of simulation in teaching trauma and treatment of chemical warfare, and various uses of intraosseous sites for drugs and fluid administration in combat scenarios for both adult and pediatric models. Faculty members have assisted hundreds of students in publishing manuscripts in high-tier, refereed journals.  The results of the studies have been presented by faculty and students at numerous local, state, national, and international conferences earning multiple awards for both podium and poster presentations.

Evidence-Based Practice

The USAGPAN continues to lead by example as demonstrated by their robust and adaptive Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Program that includes faculty certified in the systematic review process and training. The EBP program begins with the individual clinical sites generating evidence utilization ideas that are intended to improve or validate clinical care provided in their hospitals. Those ideas are then integrated into the didactic course of instruction, developing the projects that the students will envision, plan, build and implement throughout their entire two-year clinical experience. The coordination and planning culminates not only in the doctoral-level DNP Project that is required to earn the DNP degree, but a project that impacts patient care where the students learn the art and science of providing anesthesia.
